Head Coach: Mike Woodson

New Players: G Joe Johnson (Trade with Phoenix); C John Edwards (Free Agent); C Zaza Pachulia (Free Agent); F Esteban Batista (Free Agent).
Season Goal: What could the goal possibly be in Atlanta besides righting the ship? Sinking badly over the last decade, the Hawks need something and someone to build upon. Could Joe Johnson be that something?

Atlanta Hawks (17 - 37) - Monday, February 27, 2006, 7:00 PM - Philips Arena
Major Johnson
Joe Johnson wanted to be the man, so he forced his way off a winning team to join the Hawks (and get a huge payday in the process), who have been anything but winning as they go through their annual rebuilding process. Johnson's been fine, even netting a triple double a few weeks back, as has F Al Harrington (the player half the teams in the league would love to sign in the off-season), but the rest of the crew of rookies, itinerant workers and league flotsam haven't exactly overproduced. Rookies Marvin Williams and Salim Stoudamire have been up and down, while the front line of Zaza Pachulia, Josh Smith and Harrington isn't awful but still...

The Nets are still smarting over their loss to the Pacers on the home court last night, but more importantly, worried over the health of Vince Carter. Who will step up for New Jersey? Can the Nets demote Johnson back to good player on bad team status with a win in Atlanta? Or will the Hawks come out flying high and take a peck out of the Big Three (or two)?
- Joe

Atlanta Hawks Cheat Sheet
The Story from Atlanta:
Milwaukee used an old trick to beat the Hawks on Saturday night: the zone. "I would have never have thought a zone would beat us," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said after the 99-89 defeat.

"But we just didn't make any shots. "If I was another team, I'd watch this game and probably play a zone against us, too."

"We got off to a great start, and we got lackadaisical and the zone caught us," Woodson said. "We've just got to go back to the drawing board."

Pain Game: G Tyronn Lue (right knee) is out.
