Jason Kidd – G
Known For: Sixth-sense court vision, impossible passes, rebounder and assist maker, never say die mentality, defensive intensity, hitting the clutch shot, leadership and toughness.

The Skinny: Savior to Sinner in one off-season? That's how it's starting to play out in the media, as the former franchise reviver regrets his re-signing with New Jersey out loud after the team is sold and then dismantled for spare parts, depriving Kidd the teammates to chase that elusive title. Of course, his recent, more-complicated-than-expected microfracture surgery on his knee means the Nets cannot grant Kidd his wish to be moved to a more serious title contender, as no one wants a $90 million dollar point guard on one leg. Our man Kidd must prove he is recovered from the injury, do all those magical things with the basketball again, and decide whether or not he wants to force his way out of town. After all, being the All World point guard means you'll always be in demand, no matter how poisonous you've become to your current situation. Those skills mean you never have to say your sorry.

The Concern: No longer, can he hold up against the huge quantities of minutes without a capable backup, but can he hold up at all to the pounding on his knee that the "Jason Kidd Style of Play" demands? Of course, this is a two-part answer, because if he passes question number one, question number two becomes, "how long before he forces his way out of town, to Minneapolis or Dallas?" The Nets are a shell of their former selves - without Kidd they go from Divisional contender to Divisional doormat. In a hurry.

Joe's World View: Kidd doesn't want to be here since they promised him his toys after re-signing and then taking them away under new ownership. The Nets need Kidd, not only for what he does on the court, but for what he's done for the value of the franchise. But they don't need a whining, petulant Kidd who isn't with the program. Talk about your paradox. I would expect Kidd to be moved by the trading deadline if he proves he's healthy enough to play - hell, his leadership skills alone, combined with someone like Kevin Garnett, would be enough to get them through. Pray, Netsfans - that while he is here, he provides some thrills, chills, and wins, and when he moves on, we thank him with the proper sendoff before greeting his likely-to-be-expiring-contract replacements. We owe him that much for the last three years.

Joe's Prediction: If the knee holds up: 11.5 PPG, 5.5 Rebounds, 7.5 Assist, 1 steal and 28 minutes per game averages.
