Nicknames: Clearly, either you've taken to him, or you're just frustrated that he's Kenyon Martin's replacement. Nicknames like "Deebo Lite", "The Forward Formerly Known As Kenyon", and "The Band Aid" aren't exactly reassuring, but hey, we can always just stick with "EWill". More nicknames here.

Eric Williams –G/F
Known For: Defensive-minded forward with some offensive game. Excellent leader on court and in the locker room. Can play 3 positions.

The Skinny: This is the replacement for Kenyon Martin at the power forward spot? Well, not exactly, though Williams will be counted on to do many of the things that Martin was entrusted to do, like shut down the opposing scorer up front, hit the glass, and score in the low post. Whether or not Williams can handle the assignment remains to be seen, but he is a pro all the way, and won't embarass himself or the Nets most nights.

The Concern: This is the replacement for Kenyon Martin? If Williams can't defend, or grab rebounds to start the break, the Nets will bog down faster than the Parkway traffic south on a summer Saturday. The Nets will need Williams to play bigger than he is, and while he may be able to accomplish that defensively, he's not exactly going to scare opponents offensively.

Joe's World View: Eric Williams was the Nets' best off-season signing, and not just because he's a local boy from Newark. Williams would have been a great fit with the previous two seasons' worth of Nets, as he's a leader on and off the court, and does many of the little things without complaint. But he's ticketed for at least some time at the power forward spot, and that's not really going to help the Nets, if all he's handling are the intangibles. The Nets need some rebounds, some defense, and 10 points per game from EWill if this is going to have any chance at succeeding. He's not Martin, for certain, but he ain't all bad.

Joe's Prediction: 10.5 PPG, 4.5 Rebounds, 1.0 Assist, 1 steal and 28 minutes per game averages.
