Denver
Nuggets (10 - 33) - Monday, January 27, 2003, 9:00pm EST - Pepsi Center
4-H Club Going into Denver this season is like heading out the the country to take part in the local 4-H festivities chaos, livestock judging, and dickering over who really deserves the prize ribbon. The 4-H club for Denver F's Juwan Howard and Donnel Harvey, rookie C Nene Hilario, and replacement point guard Junior Harrington make up 4/5ths of the starting rotation at this moment, mostly due to injury. And aside from Howard, who's a legitimate NBA player, these guys aren't scaring anyone (although, give Hilario a season, and he might be downright scary, his athleticism is that overwhelming). The Nuggets are bad. How bad, you ask? They average a league-low 80 points per game and managed just 58 against the Celts the other day. They also lead the league in turnovers and have the worst shooting percentage, three-point shooting percentage, and free-throw percentage, Youth is being served, however, so it's anybody's guess whether or not they'll ever be able to win Most Improved, let alone the grand prize, with this bunch of cattle. So will the Nuggets trample the weary Nets in their stall? Or will the Nets celebrate this five game West Coast disappointment festival with a slaughter? See You in Hell, Dolans: The number will rise to 34 games lost to the Cablevision/YES mess. Do something about it: Click here. - Joe Denver Nuggets Cheat Sheet The Story from Denver: Delusional in Denver? F Juwan Howard, after the Nuggets scored 12 points in the second quarter in losing to Milwaukee 88 - 75 on Saturday night: "That's terrible. We have to do a better job than that. We played like a playoff team in the first quarter. We had a rhythm and energy and then in the second quarter, we lost our energy." Howard also expects things to improve when Marcus Camby and Chris Whitney return from injuries and the Nuggets have a full roster, most likely by next Saturday, according to Marc J. Spears (Denver Post). Howard said, "We'll be a lot better. We got a very good defensive player (Camby), who is long, active, can play this game and has playoff experience. Then we got a guard (Whitney), who is a very good point guard and a leader on the floor who can shoot the basketball and open up a lot." Again, I'll bring up the word delusional. Starting point guard Chris Whitney, currently on injured reserve, is schedule to get an MRI on his injured ankle and could be cleared to come off IR and play against the Nets. Pain Game: Marcus Camby, C, is questionable with an ankle injury. Chris Whitney, G (ankle), Mark Bryant, F (quadraceps) and Predrag Savovic, G(ankle) are on the injured list. Controversy: It's all Camby, all the time. First, Marcus Camby's hip injury and his claim that it should have been treated by the Knicks. Camby returned to action, only to be sidelined almost instantly with an ankle injury. Camby also claimed that he loves Denver although he's an East Coast guy, and that the Nuggets got the better of the McDyess/Camby deal. I could add in why Juwan Howard can't live up to his potential, but that would be thinking too much about a team that clearly doesn't deserve it.
