New Orleans Hornets (41 - 34) - Wednesday, April 2, 2003, 8:30pm EST - New Orleans Arena
Pest Trip
Talk about your tough weeks – Hornets guard Baron Davis, injured when the Nets last played New Orleans, faces a swarm of pests, perhaps the three best point guards in the NBA this week. First, it was Tony Parker of the Spurs (the Hornets lost by 2). Last night, it was Steve Nash of the Mavs (the Hornets lost by 9). Tonight, it's Davis vs Jason Kidd. Remember how Kidd got the best of Davis in the playoffs? Don't think Davis won't feel like he's got something to prove. The Hornets are getting great play from Jamal Mashburn, the team's leading scorer, but they need more from their bench as they've now lost four of their last five games. Can the Nets fly into the Hornets' nest and come away with a rare road victory? Or will the Hornets sting at the Nets' attempt to finish first in the Eastern Conference?

See You in Hell, Dolans:
It's official – there it was on my TV screen, on channel 89. The YES Network on Cablevision. Thank you, everyone, for your support during these trying times. Best part for Joe? Already paying way too much for cable, there's no additional charge for the YES Network. Cablevision still sucks, but at least the Nets are on.

New Orleans Hornets Cheat Sheet
The Story From N'awlins: According to John Reid (New Orleans Times-Picayune), Baron Davis is still trying to round back into shape after his layoff due to knee surgery. "I'm still kind of indecisive out there on the court, but the more I play, it will all come together," Davis said.

What's with Toronto? Jimmy Smith (New Orleans Times-Picayune) reports that there are lots of rumors regarding Hornets personnel allegedly headed to Canada. Head coach Paul Silas is reportedly a candidate for the Raptor's head coaching job should Lenny Wilkens be let go. Silas disputed the rumors by saying, "I'm not concerning myself with any job other than the one I have presently. I owe it to the owners, to the team and to the city to do the best job I can. When the season is over, we'll sit down and see where it goes from there."

And Jamal Magloire, a Toronto native, was reported to be unhappy in New Orleans and on his way to the Raptors for forward Morris Peterson. "That took me by surprise. I'm not sure where that came from...They gave me an opportunity. I've started every game, I'm playing. I can't complain."

Pain Game: David Wesley, G (foot) is out. Kirk Haston, F (knee) is on injured reserve.

Controversy:
None, other than the minor scandal of George Shinn dragging his team out of Charlotte when the city wouldn't build him a new arena. It was probably really just Shinn the Charlotte citizens hated, as there will be an NBA expansion team back in the city – which will play in a new arena.
