Cleveland
Cavaliers (10 - 46) - Tuesday, February 25, 2003, 7:00pm EST - Gund Arena
Stankonia, OH How many times, in how many ways, can you say the Cleveland Cavaliers are the worst team in the NBA? Frankly, they're one uninteresting team full of young and clueless talent with a history of bad trades, even worse drafts and an owner who may or may not be selling the team. He ain't saying. They traded their best player, Andre Miller, in the off-season for a package that included Darius Miles, who may be athletic but can't seem to fathom how to play a team sport. Their best player is either Ricky Davis, a guy who can score but can't guard a lamp-post and has a questionable-at-best attitude, or Zydrunas Ilgauskas, who made the All-Star team despite himself, simply because he's a center in the center-deprived Eastern Conference. They've lost 6 in a row, are two games in the lead for the LeBron James ping-pong ball extravaganza, and there appears to be little hope in Cleveland that the franchise will be anything more than the Clippers East. Can the Cavs somehow wake up out of their stupor for a brief moment and surprise the underachieving Nets with a home court win? Or will the Nets use the Cavs as a punching bag for their frustrations on this first game of a back-to-back before taking on the Knicks? See You in Hell, Dolans: The number will rise to 45 games lost to the Cablevision/YES mess. Despite claims from owner Gordon Gund that the team is not for sale, there is a potential buyer for the Cavaliers franchise. Allen Schwalb, a longtime motion-picture financier, is getting into position to become the new majority owner of the Cavs. "We're getting all of our ducks in a row," Schwalb said from his Orlando office. "We've been looking (at the Cavs) for a while." According to Forbes Magazine, the Cavs are listed at being worth $222 million, and Schwalb is confident that his group, which includes former NBA legend Rick Barry, can make a successful bid for the team. According to Burt Graeff (Cleveland Plain Dealer), veteran F Tyrone Hill is not happy that he was not traded at the deadline Thursday as the Cavs go with youth for the balance of the season. "I have had a good career. I don't want it to end this way," says Hill. Pain Game: G Smush Parker (ankle) is on injured reserve. Controversy: Gordon Gunds' "I don't know Allen Schwalb" denials regarding the sale of his team, Tyrone Hill's unhappiness, and speculation (unfounded) that the Cavs are intentionally losing games in order to be in the best position to pick up LeBron James cover the Cavaliers controversy platter at the moment.
