Mess - Contact Page Make Yourself Heard New! Cablevision subscribers: You won't see the Nets on television this season, unless you make yourselves heard. Below are three ways you can make a difference. Please feel free to send an electronic copy of any letters you write to Joe (joe@joenetsfan.com), and we'll post it on the site. YES's Position: Attention All Cablevision Customers: Because of Cablevision's greed and arrogance, Nets fans will not be able to watch their favorite team this year as they try to repeat last year's success. Cablevision owns the MSG Network and the New York Knicks and refuses to carry the YES Network that will be airing the Nets regular season games this year. Every other cable company in the area, plus DirecTV, carries the YES Network on basic but Cablevision refuses. Cablevision is using it monopoly powers to shut the regular "Joe Nets Fan" out. For many, Cablevision is the only game in town (no pun intended). This means we have no choice but to use Cablevision as our cable provider. Moreover, Cablevision is still charging us for programs it isn't broadcasting. Last year you could watch the Nets, this year you can't. They should give everyone affected a rebate for missing out on the coverage. Cablevision Contact: James Dolan President Cablevision Systems Corporation 1111 Stewart Avenue Bethpage, NY 11714 1) Write to Cablevision and demand that they carry the YES Network, and threaten to switch to DirecTV if they don't. Need help? Here is a draft of a letter to Mr Dolan that can get you started. You should draft your own to make it more original. James Dolan President Cablevision Systems Corporation 1111 Stewart Avenue Bethpage, NY 11714 Dear Mr. Dolan: As a Cablevision customer, I feel it is important to tell you that I am quite dissatisfied with the current level of service you are providing in my area. Since I have no other option than to have Cablevision, I am considering joining the 50,000 customers who have switched to satellite television. The dispute between Cablevision and the YES Network has caused millions of fans to miss their favorite baseball -- and now basketball -- teams on television. Cablevision should provide the same option as the other cable providers in the area who broadcast the YES network on their systems. You are denying us the right to see the reining Eastern Conference Champion Nets. Last year's success has generated many new fans and your negligence towards them can only be seen as monopolistic and protectionist. If you are truly going to deny your customers programming, you should reimburse us for any lost programming you will not provide. I urge you to negotiate with the YES Network and carry the same programming as your counterparts throughout the area. Sincerely, Your name Your address New Jersey State Legislature Contact: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/members/roster.asp 2) It is possible to have your elected officials sound off about this as well. This is a link to the New Jersey State legislature where you can find your legislative representatives. To find your district, clicking on the municipality link on the left side of the page. From there, find your town on the alphabetical list, which will tell you your district. You also will see the contact information for your three state representatives. If you would like to send a letter to your mayor and local council, you can call your local town hall for the contact information. Newspaper Contacts 3) Write your local newspapers and tell them how you feel about the current situation. The more people who go public about this, the better the chances Cablevision will agree to carry the YES Network. Sample draft of a Letter to the Editor (again, you should draft your own to make it more original.): Dear Editor, As a diehard Nets fan, I can truly say that I am still basking in last year's incredible Eastern Conference Championship season. I am looking forward to another successful season where, perhaps, we can go all the way and win the NBA Championship. I am concerned, however, because it is likely that I, along with scores of new fans, will be unable to watch games at home. This is because I have Cablevision - owners of the Knicks and broadcast on MSG - and Cablevision refuses to carry the YES Network. Cablevision is obviously more concerned about their own network - MSG - and refuses to pay attention to its customers. Is this a ploy for us to watch the Knicks? Forget it. This can only be seen as a reason for me to switch to satellite TV. To prevent me and plenty of Nets fans from switching, I urge Cablevision to do what every other cable company has done - carry the YES Network.
