Diatribe
#1 - October 31, 2000 The Curse Continues A month ago, I was excited. New Nets season approaching, with a new front office, a new coach, and new first round draft pick. Training camp began, and from the reports I could read, this was a new way of preparing for the season (you listening Case?). Then, it began. Kerry Kittles sidelined, probably for the season or most of it, with a troublesome knee. Lucious Harris sidelined with a hernia, to miss the start of the season. Jamie Feick sidelined with an achilles problem, to miss a good part of the season. Still I thought, although a tough way to begin, at least most of the core of the team is still healthy. Yes, I was concerned about the shooting guard position, but as long as we have Stephon Marbury, things will be ok. Damned if Keith Van Horn doesnt get hurt. Twisted a knee, has to sit out two preseason games. No big deal, heÃll be ready for the season. First game back, he breaks a leg. He'll be out 4 6 weeks, which turns out to be good news. What is it with this team and the never ending string of injuries, both severe and career threatening? Is there some obscure NBA bylaw that says the Nets have to be snake-bitten so they can never overshadow the hated Knicks, just a few miles down Route 3? Has some deal with the devil been signed dooming the franchise to the lower regions of the standings? Worse yet, why oh why am I still a fan? The Curse of Dr. J continues.
